How to calculate a rabbit ration
A rabbit feed calculator estimates a one-kilogram ration from the ingredients you select and compares its protein, fibre fractions, energy, starch, fat, minerals and essential amino acids with reference ranges for the chosen life stage. What the calculator checks
The calculator evaluates several nutrients together because one acceptable number cannot make an otherwise unbalanced ration safe or complete.
Protein and amino acids
Crude protein, lysine and methionine support growth, milk production and tissue maintenance; the appropriate range changes with life stage.
Crude fibre, NDF and ADF
These measures describe different parts of the fibre fraction. They help assess structure and dilution, but do not replace a physical check of particle size and forage quality.
Energy, starch and fat
Energy density must be balanced with fibre and intake. Young and adult rabbits can respond differently to rapidly digestible carbohydrate.
Calcium and phosphorus
Mineral concentration and balance matter for bone, production and urinary health. Ingredient values and actual availability can vary.
Sodium
Sodium is checked separately because small mineral additions can materially change a one-kilogram formula.
Life-stage targets
Reference ranges are selected for weaned, growing, maintenance, pregnancy, lactation, breeding, replacement or pet profiles.
Dry-matter basis, ingredient data and interpretation
Reference ingredient values are typical means, not laboratory results for your batch. Variety, harvest date, storage, moisture, processing and supplier specifications can change the actual nutrient composition.
The database normalizes nutrient comparisons on a dry-matter basis where appropriate. Fresh forage and roots contain much more water than meals and grains, so equal fresh weights are not nutritionally equivalent.
A green result means the mathematical estimate is within the stored reference band. It does not test toxins, mould, mycotoxins, medication interactions, particle size, pellet durability, water quality, voluntary intake or local feed-law compliance.

Why does the rabbit's life stage matter?
Growth, pregnancy, lactation and maintenance have different protein, energy, fibre and mineral demands. The selected profile changes the reference bands used for comparison.
What is the difference between as-fed and dry matter?
As-fed weight includes water. Dry matter removes water from the comparison, which makes fresh forage, roots, hay, meals and grains more comparable nutritionally.
Why can a recipe be impossible to balance?
The chosen ingredients may all supply similar nutrients or may be constrained by safe inclusion limits. Add a complementary fibre, protein, energy or mineral source and calculate again.
Does an in-range result prove the ration is safe?
No. It only shows that estimated nutrients fall within stored ranges. Ingredient identity, contamination, processing, palatability, legal status and the health of the rabbits still need separate checks.
